The Glass Teat, or 'Television'

Repeat after me: I will not hate watch. The algorithm does not understand intent and will count this as proof you want more of this type of ‘content’.

Exactly how I feel about Rings of Power. Quite apart from not wanting to spend some of my limited time on this planet watching bad Tolkien fanfic written in crayon by people who barely understand the source material,

Invincible S3. Definite budget drop for the animation aside, this is still good.

Daredevil: Born Again. He’s quit being Daredevil, so this is going to be a very short series and there will never be any more.

So we just finished the Agency last night and I am mostly ok with it. Certainly enough to watch a Season 2, but I found the whole Iran story to be like this added element that did not connect to anything else. Like if the main character of the show IS ‘The Agency’ then multiple stories and how they interact with the team there makes sense. But since Martian is the main character/story, I felt that side stories were out of place.

I agree the acting was fantastic and I found a lot of it to be more realistic than I am used to in shows, that huge plus there.

I will say, there is no way I believe that Martian would have let Poppy’s college ID slip into their hands though, why did he even have it?

Agreed with the spoiler, but plot device I suppose.

The Iran storyline is world building for season 2, assuming they stay faithful to the original French version, which they seem to have so far.

You might want to be sitting down for this: I enjoyed this week’s Wheel of Time episode.

The show still commits too many unforced errors, though. For example, spending an episode talking about the history of the Aiel and giving reasons for their veils while simultaneously showing Aiel fighting without veils. That’s just sloppy.

But the episode was surprisingly good. I do wonder how non-readers felt with the reverse history lesson.

White Lotus S3. Come on, this is so good, especially for a third season. Obviously easier as it’s an anthology, but still.

Common Side Effects. When a maverick scientist discovers a fungi that can heal all ills, he finds out that this is not exactly welcomed by everyone. Plenty of humour, but with a very black edge, just how I like it.

To be clear, I have not edited or adjusted anything–this is amazon’s own description for a new upcoming series that it’s pretty hot on:

“Murdered bounty hunter Hub Halloran is resurrected by the Devil to hunt demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. By chasing down those demons with the help and hinderance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned – which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music.”

This is an actual show that has gotten made. No, really. It stars Kevin Bacon as “Hub”, who is actually older than me. Because, if you’re Satan, and you’ve got a demon escapee problem, the thing you really want to do is go look at all the beings you’ve got at your disposal throughout hell and select a human guy in his mid-60s to go get your escapees back. Just that guy. Yep.

I can’t stop laughing at this line, thinking about how clever this writer must have thought he was. “We gotta tag the description with a witty ending … life, love, and happiness? Nah … life, love, and salvation? Hmm … wait, I’ve got it!!!”

Isn’t this very, really, extremely, annoyingly close to the plot of Constantine?

John Constantine didn’t like country music. This is completely different.

Extraordinary. Everyone gets a superpower, the vast majority of which are of varying utlity. Quite amusing.

Unstable. Very superficial, but some good lines. Basic comedy.

Shining Vale. Courtney Cox in the first ever decent role I’ve seen, as a disaster of a mother, Greg Kinnear as the lovable goof of a repressed dad, and their haunted house. Kooky, very definitely a little too ridiculous, but enjoyable.
