Classic Netflix.
The OA is fantastic. The 2nd season is wilder and more surreal than the first, and I was so mad and disappointed when Netflix cancelled it.
Britt Marling has a more recent show (on Hulu, I believe) called A Murder at the End of the World. Itâs good and worth watching, but not on the same level as The OA.
MacGruber. This is, quite amazingly, the same tone as the film, and itâs stupid comedy all the way. I appreciate every scene of MacGruberâs hapless, pathetic attempts, and his awkward successes.
Colin from Accounts S2. As good as the first. Very pleased.
Started watching the Adam Sandler - Love Me stand up on Netflix on the weekend.
After getting through the intro that I assumed was a piss take on the super polished Netflix specials, it rolled into the actual standup.
It was unwatchable. I couldnât hear it properly, even with the Telly at high volumes. It wasnât funny, and it wasnât even clever enough for me to go âIâll watch through thisâ. I gave it 10 mins, thumbs down and took off my Netflix bar.
I think it was trying to be clever, but I am not putting in the work to get to something that may or may not be Adam Sandler redux - with a goat song or something.
When I was in college, Adam Sandler performed at my school, and the acousticsâor his mumblingâwere so bad I could only understand one out of every three words. Sad but unsurprising the experience isnât any better on TV a couple of decades later.
Terminator Zero. Itâs a nice little series, but itâs just trying to do all the good bits from the Terminator films on a smaller budget with more over-complicating time travel. Better than the last few films, but not good.
Sarah Connor Chronicles. âSo, you have chosen to watch garbage.â At least itâs got Lena Headey in it.
The Penguin. Whoever compared this to The Sopranos should be whacked.
Dandadan. Absolutely bonkers from the beginning, and very entertaining.
Uzumaki. The animation quality in ep 1 is gorgeous, but apparently thatâs where all the money went. The very obvious dip in quality in ep 2 is sad, but at least it remains twisted and sometimes bleakly amusing.
I generally avoid Vulture, but this was interesting, if only for:
âPrestige exhaustion has been seeping into the TV landscape for a while, and itâs taken some time for old-school network TV to take advantage of an audience craving new options for light, escapist entertainment. This is the biggest takeaway from the fall dramas. Itâs nice when TV feels like TV again!â
I havenât seen that phrase âprestige exhaustionâ before, and itâs so accurate. That said, I donât imagine I will watch any of these shows, honestlyâŚ
Agreed, I really liked this too. Does Netflix offer Obituary in your country? If so, you might also enjoy this - same kind of small-town Irish setting, same lead actress, similar increase of pace as the series progresses, heavier lean into the dark comedy
Finally got around to watching Arcane, because my kids wanted to. Gorgeous. Decent plot. Not a lot of characters I related to, but it certainly impresses me that this came out of a video game.
As a LoL fan, I loved many of the things it showed me. The visuals are, as noted, amazing. I got pretty pumped with the Ekko fight. Iâm definitely looking forward to season 2.
Doesnât appear to but Iâll keep an eye out!
oo, found it on Hulu!
Bodkin is so good. We might watch it over again.
My wife and I were flailing around for something similar after we finished it and found a nice show called Dead Loch (amazon in the US). And by âniceâ I mean that yes, it has a similar wacky/dark/mystery thing going on, with (much) more swearing (hard as that may be to believe) and killings. I actually lost track of the body count after a while. The level of offensive swearing makes Bodkin look like Doc MsStuffins. But itâs Australian, so, you know, itâs just being accurate.
Late to the game, but Euphoria on HBO or Max or whatever the fuck they call themselves this week.
Hard to watch, insofar as the main character trying to kill herself on a daily basis. Fully worth it for the other characters. If you can get past the angst and anxiety inducing plot line, this is well worth watching.
Ludwig. The fabulously awkward David Mitchell plays a fabulously awkward man who has to replace his missing twin brother at work. Iâm slowly losing interest in Mitchellâs one trick, thanks to a Peep Show overdose no doubt, but itâs still mildly entertaining. It will be good to see how far they can push the âpuzzle genius can solve crimes because heâs a savantâ angle, but my feeling is not very far; weâve seen it all before.
I like Mitchell but I really only know him from panel shows, most notably Would I Lie To You? I havenât been over-saturated with him yet. Iâd still live to see him - and Richard Ayoade - on Taskmaster. The new season of Taskmaster is great, by the way.
Heâs superb in Back, if you can find it.
HOLE. Y. FUCK.
Last two episodes of Euphoria S2 may be some of the best tv Iâve ever seen.
Itâs a mystery as to why.
