The Glass Teat, or 'Television'

Just realized it was a Starz show. At least that explains all the tits and ass.

Selling me on the show now.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. Highlander doesn’t have those qualities. I mean, it is Scottish and a horrible show, agreed on that much. I suppose Duncan takes his shirt off periodically, but you guys are way over-reacting.

The Curse. This is about the trifecta of Nathan Fielder, and Emma Stone as a married couple philanthropically flipping houses, and Benny Safdie as the director of the film crew running their reality TV show. They’re all great. My interest was due to Stone, but Fielder more than holds his own, and Safdie is a gem. Excruciating comedy.

Bodies. What the fuck was that ending. Clearly shit the bed writing that, and in the last two episodes, it all comes apart in a big, shitty mess. “It’s all right lads, none of it ever happened, OR DID IT.”

Fuck off.

Ken Burns’ Vietnam, purchased on iTunes.

The fucking hubristic balls on us. Reinforced the goddamn debacle that was this and every American war since.

A must watch, obviously.

Fargo S5. Is there anything better than John Hamm being a cunt? I put it to you there is not. Jennifer Jason Leigh is good, Juno Temple is good, Joe Keery is good, Richa Moorjani is good. It’s hard to argue with any of Fargo’s cast. The directing is immaculate. I don’t like the digital fireams effects, they’re still not convincing, but they’re the standard now because People Cannot Be Trusted. Totally on board with this again, the music especially makes you feel like you’re in on a great joke with the rest of the people making the show.

Do I need to have seen the other seasons to see this one?

Nope. Self-contained.

You really should though. Each one is worth the time. They write relationships so well the people keep falling in love in the real world. And it truly is nutty how they blend brutal realism and bizarre fantasy time and time again.

Was not aware season 5 was out. Need to watch this one faster than I did 4. But there’s so much piling up right now, still falling behind on Archer and Rick and Morty, and so little time when my wife and kids are not up to catch up (and I really should be writing most of that time).

Ghosts, the BBC original and not the US remake. This being UK television, a successful series which lasted 5 seasons and 3 specials has uh, 33 episodes in total.

Very good-natured charming comedy about a couple who inherit a dilapidated and (obviously) haunted country house. Comfort viewing, except for the episode about one of the ghosts moving on when it smacks you in the face that the ghosts have been together for decades or centuries, and that their mutual company is what sustains them in the face of an apparently arbitrary fate. Too be hit with a moving exploration of loss and grief was unexpected.

We are slowly watching it as it shows on Paramount Plus. We already watched the American one just recently. What’d you think of that version?

Finally got around to streaming The Last of Us. I’m glad I did. I’ll never play the game because I don’t see the point in buying something that might make me motion sick and isn’t a Zelda game, so this is the only way I’ll experience the story. I have the luxury of not caring how closely the show sticks to the game’s plot. Loved it, looking forward to season 2, and I might actually watch that one as it airs instead of binging it later.

Rewatching Medical Police and laughing my back off. Every stupid joke possible crammed into a script that does not care.

Have watched this twice. It’s exceptionally well done, with fair treatment to all sides and POV.

Some quick notes and suggestions:

For All Mankind – season 4 has been riveting so far. I love how Wrenn Schmidt pronounces Russian with an Alabama accent. I’m really getting weary of Ed, though. His character is a one-note song at this point.

Morning Show – the wife talked me into this. (Only fair, because I talked her into watching FAM.) Season 1 was very good. I bailed about halfway through season 2, though. Just didn’t like where the show seemed to be heading.

Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix) – OUTSTANDING! I loved this, primarily for the artwork and depth of the characters. Brian Kesinger (lead character developer) just announced on his Instagram channel that BES has been renewed for season 2. Definitely worth a watch if you have any interest in samurai flicks. Warning: lots of sex, nudity, and gore.
