People raved about it and I hated every second of the first season, never bothered going back for more.
I LOVE this show. I get that itâs unrealistic, but what tv show isnât? Iâm on the fourth season and want more, more, more. Iâd wear a cowboy hat as tribute to Yellowstone if it were socially acceptable in northern NJ lol
I also had the issue that Iâve had with other shows (Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, etc.) where the protagonist is a horrible human being that the world would be better off without. I donât mind when a show has morally grey areas or a bad character whose redemption you are rooting for but was I supposed to be concerned about the well being of this serial killer?
Both Breaking Bad and Ozark I could only stomach one season on them. It was not just that the main characters were horrible, every character on those shows were deplorable. There was nobody to root for.
I just find the contrast between Kevin Costner foiling a dweebâs planning permission, and his son shooting a burn victim in the head for no reason jarring. I would like the show to pick a lane. Iâm confused as to whether Iâm watching a serious drama (trying to be, anyway) or a bloke opera like Sons of Anarchy.
I donât have that problem; guess I view the world as half empty lol?
I really enjoyed Breaking Bad, although SoA was utter trash. I objected more to the garbage and repetitive storyline more than the characters, although I did like how Walter and Jax were both doing what they viewed as right for their families despite it being wrong in the greater worldview. Maybe thatâs what I enjoy about the Duttons in Yellowstone tooâŚ
Dexter is just bad acting, poorly written, and stupid. IMHO.
I think it wants to toe the line betwixt the two? Iâm not sure, but itâs a good hour of mindless TV.
In other news, started The Landscapers (HBO) yesterday, based on the true story of an older English couple who have committed a murder. Told in a rather tongue in cheek manner, it has a good undertone of humor throughout. One episode only so far, but will watch more.
Also just watched The Line on Apple TV+, a 4 part miniseries (1h each) about Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher and the killing of an alleged ISIS member at knifepoint in Iraq. Great mix of real footage, interviews with both Gallagher and his teammates. Doesnât really leave you grasping for a conclusion as to whether or not he did it (spoiler: I think he did) but was definitely worth a watch.
Thatâs fine, as a certain character has just killed his fourth person in three episodes.
I recently binge watched Stranger Things, I loved it unexpectedly
Also very ambiguous but gripping âMonsters Insideâ on Netflix
Ted Lasso (season 1 so far) was hilarious
Could not get past episode 3 of See (such a crap)
Thinking about starting queens gambit ? Or maybe Man in the high castleâŚ
As I like some good western, maybe Iâll give Hell on Wheels a shot as well
Loved Stranger Things too; if you like the 80âs vibe definitely check out The Americans (if you havenât seen it already).
Ted Lasso S2 isnât as good, but still keeps the same feel good mentality as S1.
See was godawful - I love dystopian stuff and couldnât get into it at all.
Both Queenâs Gambit and MitHC were great. MiTHC went downhill over time imho but was watchable till the end; wife and I enjoyed QG a lot.
I gotta say, Netflix has been doing great work with westerns. The Harder They Fall was brilliant, and Godless beats out even Deadwood in my estimation.
I am a fan of Westerns but missed out on Deadwood when it originally aired. I watched it a few years ago before the âwrap upâ movie came out and really didnât get the hype. Itâs good but I wasnât blown away.
I loved The Harder they Fall, I did not care for Godless, though we watched it all.
We really liked The Power of the Dog, which is more of a Big Sky Western.
Well, now I have to give platelets again so I can see The Power of the Dog. It amuses me that telling people about good westerns can aid cancer treatment.
Disappointed Power of the Dog isnât an adaptation of the Winslow book; now interested in this film anyway.
I have never understood the appeal of this show. Purely on a conceptual basis, itâs kind of interesting I guess, but the actual show is just predictable and flat and overly gruesome. I also was not rooting for the main character. 3 eps was all I could bear.
Queenâs Gambit is very good, though a little frustrating if you actually like chess a lot, because itâs not really about chess.
Man in the High Castle was fine; itâs easier to like if you can separate it from the source material, which I had a hard time with for a while, but then got past.
This suggestion will sound off to you, but based on your other interests, you might really like the first season or two of Riverdale.
You need to get one of these new TVs that donât require blood to work.
I watched the first half of Dexter when it was new, then my Showtime subscription ended. I was bummed at first not to have a chance to keep on with it. But the more I read about, the more it felt like a bullet dodged. It was never a premise meant for so many seasons.
Regarding Queenâs Gambit, youâre absolutely right. Itâs not about chess, itâs about addiction, loneliness, and sex. The novel was about chess, which is why I didnât like the adaptation.
