The Glass Teat, or 'Television'

Watching Leverage.

Is how I feel after some of those comedic flashbacks.

Falcon and Winter Soldier. Chap’s part of the military-industrial complex but doesn’t get paid, righto.

Given up on Wandavision. Three or four characters all explaining to you what is happening. Legitimately Not Good.

I wasn’t thrilled with the first episode of Wandavision but everybody told me it got better. I guess not?

I think the first three episodes are kind of good? Then it gets worse again. If you liked Legion or Twin Peaks, I think you can skip it.

I feel the same way. I liked the homage to classic television, but found it kind of fell apart as they revealed what was really going on. Which seems to be the exact opposite of most of the opinions I’ve heard.

My kids were ready to quit after the first 2 episodes, but then came back to it after their friends told them it got better, and I think they liked it in the end. So maybe Marvel is hitting their target audience, which isn’t me?

I love Twin Peaks (S1) (S2 is ok, and the recent thing they did is disappointing) but have not tried Legion. Apparently I should?

Wandavision was interesting and then after ep 3 or so seemed to be working too hard to convince you it was still interesting.

For those who haven’t jumped on the Disney + bandwagon yet, the rates will be going up tomorrow, so now may be a good time to lock in a year if you’ve been on the fence.

I finished Tell Me Your Secrets on amazonprime and enjoyed it in parts. Really enjoyed it in parts, actually, and it’s extremely dark and sort of unsettling. I also really like the lead, Lily Rabe, who does not disappoint. But some of it goes a little off the rails in places, and it becomes challenging to care about yet another argument she has with her psychologist about whether to trust him or not, which happens literally at least once an ep. I also can’t think of a show that I’ve seen with so many psychopathic characters. There may be a season 2.

Also continuing with CB Strike, I think I’m on the newest case, and it’s good. It manages to just barely keep from being predictable in its long arc, and the mysteries are nicely satisfying.

Noticed that HBO+ has Babylon 5 last night, so I picked an ep to have a look at for old times’ sake, and found it unwatchable. I’ve watched the whole series all the way through twice, in the rather distant past, and it would appear that I will be better off with those sort of fond memories than the grimace-inducing reality.

Invincible debuts tomorrow and has been getting good reviews, though the animation looks like someone went back to the 90s and found this program we all missed and is billing it as new.

This is very random; apologies.

Definitely try Legion. In a completely different league to all other superhero series, except perhaps The Tick.

I have also watched the full series through twice in the past and was considering it when I saw it on HBO MAX and you just convinced me to not bother, as I was concerned if it would hold up or not.

Similarly, I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and have watched it all the way through twice, and thought I would look forward to watching it when my daughter was old enough (she is 8 now and I was thinking like 11) but I suspect it will also not hold up any more.

I personally really liked WandaVision, but then I also had just re-read a lot of the early 2000s Marvel stories so a lot of the fan references from that era were fun to find for me.

We just finished season one of His Dark Materials on HBO Max and it was way better than I expected, and I am not even sure why I had low expectations.

Invincible. This is decent! Can’t believe I remember getting the first issue of this, for free, in 1998 or something. My bones crumble at the thought.

I was deep-digging around in HBO Max this weekend looking for something to watch and came upon this rather bizarre, how-does-this-exist Norwegian time travel show that the universe had somehow been keeping secret from me (because I will watch anything time travel) called Beforeigners.

Premise is bizzaro and random: several years ago, random people started appearing in the middle of the night in Oslo harbor, swimming to shore, being rescued. Thing is, all of these people are from one of three very specific eras of history: the prehistoric Stone Age, the Viking era, and the 19th century. This is happening all over the world. No one knows why. Society has not been especially welcoming (that part is not a surprise).

Series focuses NOT on solving the mystery of “Why/How are these people time traveling?” but on a police detective in Oslo and his new partner, the first Viking to ever make it onto the force, a rather kickass young woman.

I’m 3 eps in, and it’s quite absorbing. Also rather graphic and brutal at times, but that’s Norway’s brand when it comes to crime fiction. Very solid acting too.

Love the Norwegian stuff. I still recommend Occupied to everyone I can!

And don’t forget Norsemen, on Netflix - very Monty Python’esque humor.

Man I am SO glad I stuck with it :stuck_out_tongue:
It is so corny and cheesy I get a full meal just watching 1-2 episodes a week but darn is it a blast :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Where else can you get these absolutely perfectly realistic gunfight scenes if not in Leverage, especially when Eliott hates guns with a passion ^^

It may be because I LOVE Heist movies so the premise of the series is just so much up my alley that all the other crazy stuff in it goes down smoother than usual…

Speaking of Bias due to my love of the source material; started watching Star Trek: Lower Decks.

I am way too old Anime otaku and mostly cannot stand western Animation at all. I scoff at The Simpson’s, I hate Family Guy, I detest Southpark, Futurama is beneath me and the less said about Squarepants the better…but…Star Trek: Lower Decks? BRILLIANT!™

I hadn’t had such a good laugh in a loooong time. This needs about 87 more seasons…right now!

I was a little skeptical about Lower Decks due to a lot of “meh” reactions on YouTube. But it was fantastic. Funny and spoofy without being disrespectful of the franchise, LD is a complete delight.

I’ll have to try it. As a lifelong Trek fan, I have been hesitant because I’d be pretty annoyed if it disrespected the franchise (not that the first 2 seasons of Enterprise don’t already do that). So this is the kind of endorsement I needed : )

Lower Decks is amazing and I told you all so last year!

Barry. Bill Hader is amazing in this, and it’s well-made, the comedy is jet black, and it’s got Henry Winkler. Watching Hader bounce between frustrated hitman and frustrated actor is wonderful, makes the whole thing worth watching.

Is there a new season out or are you watching the older ones? My wife and I love the show. NoHo Hank steals every scene. Hader is great but because of that it is also a frustrating show - it is easy to forget he’s a stone cold killer and you just want to root for the guy to catch a break and he never seems to.

Only just discovered it!

Barry was fantastic, like a modern day take on Grosse Pointe Blank.

Currently watching Warrior on HBO on the recommendation of a friend, who I’ve determined has different tastes than I. Kind of a Bruce Lee situation, San Fran at the start of the century, Bruce Lee character kicks everyone’s butts. Lots of nudity, violence, what you’d expect from a show that was originally on Cinemax.

Definitely can’t watch it during lunch at work so we’ll see how far I make it.

Warrior was literally a Bruce Lee project IIRC!

Guess I’ll have to stick with it then!

We’ve binge watched Man Down on Netflix. The premise is your typical underachieving man-child struggling through life, but Greg Davies and Mike Wozniak are absolutely hilarious. Some great characters, one insane Star Wars cameo, and some running gags that are just great. Some seriously funny body/injury humor as well. 4 seasons with only 6 or so episodes, so a quick watch.
