I haven’t, but if you’re interested, the Dice Tower just posted a review of it yesterday.
Yes. YES. YES.
That looks so good!
8 player Guards of Atlantis 2. It plays up to 10 players. We’ve played a few rounds of a lower player count (4 players) and it works well there too.
It’s a moba/ league of legends style game, but played as a boardgame. Anyone familiar with a moba game will feel right at home with the lane pushing, minion bashing, and ganking mechanics. It delivers on its promise to bring this style of game to the tabletop.
The thing that impressed me the most was how little downtime there was with 8 players. Sure, it took us 5 hours to play the game, but I was never sat there waiting for 7 players to take their turn. The individual player moves were quick as they relied on what card you’d chosen to play in the strategy phase. You plan your moves as a team, then the individual action phases happen quite fast.
I’m looking forward to playing it with 10 players, because I’m sure the 8 we had will all want a seat again
Have any of you LotR/War of the Rings fans played the LotR card game? What about the new revised edition?
I don’t know what it is because I love card games but both Marvel Champions and Arkham Horror have been merely ok for me, but I’m wondering if injecting the game with an IP I adore would help.
The LCG? It was nice but, even when we tried to challenge ourselves with a difficult scenario, very easy. It’s okay, neatly designed, but the bigger your card pool is the easier the game is. It’s probably much harder when you have one core box and one expansion.
Do you mean the old CCG from Decipher? I found it tedious and not really true to the feel or action of the books/movies. Like any CCG, too many pointless cards to learn to ignore.
Or, if you mean the more recent LCG, I enjoyed that more–better game mechanics and more interesting narrative structure. But, as @OhBollox wrote, it does get sort of easy with more cards. I mean, that can be fun too, but it depends on what experience you want.
I was talking about the LCG.
It almost makes me sad to ask this but I’m looking for a game that can accommodate a fairly large number of players who run the gamut of heavy gamers to “have you heart of this awesome game Left, Center, Right?” A) I’m looking for recommendations. B) Does anyone have any experience with Unstable Unicorns? Oh, and this is a family vacation so packability is pretty important.
I already know for sure I’m bringing the following for different occasions:
Hive
Love Letter
Fantasy Realms
Wereword
Spicy (actually goes up to about 8), The Deadlies (6), Condottiere (6), Room 25 Ultimate (8 IIRC), Hellapagos (12).
Mascarade plays up to 13, not super complex, quick, moreish, usually my go to big ole group game.
Citadels plays up to 8, has a similar vibe to Mascarade but less bluffy and more picking the right role at the right time and building up a tableau.
Wavelength plays up to 12, game showy, conversational, good for a group that aren’t all complete strangers, or even groups that are, recently released as a digital app too, but I’ve only played the physical version.
7 Wonders Architects Plays up to 7, 7 Wonders on a diet and really doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything when considered on it’s own, good intro to that type of game for a group that doesn’t play many board games.
We used to play a lot of “codenames” as a warm up game, as it could work with larger groups and people dropping into the game as they showed up
Anomia as a warm-up game says 6 on the box but I’m sure we’ve stretched it to more, Bohnanza (7) should be fine for casual gamers too
I would second Codenames. Also, our group loves Decrypto, best in setting 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 4.
King of Tokyo, Ticket to Ride, Resistance ( Avalon), Carcassonne any of those, would be choice number two. El Dorado is also not bad.
I never played unstable unicorns, but Here to Slay. Last is fine, but not great.
Also Dungeon Mayhem is a good introductory game for non gamers…
I like Citadels …
Love this game! Do not get it to the table often, though, because it’s so much better with more players : )
Also second Codenames (or third it at this point) and Ticket to Ride. You can get six in Catan with the expansion. Same for Sagrada.
Great news I had missed.
i’ve played the SPI Marengo game by play-by-mail (not email) in the (very) old days when i was a student.
