The Actual Table

@geigerm, I did not know that, and found it fascinating. I foresee no use for this information, but, for some reason (like the original article, really), it’s a tiny slice of computer engineering I find fascinating.

As for Nexus Ops, I have the Avalon Hill version. Haven’t played in years, but I remember being impressed with how well a very lean rule set produced dynamics which felt like 4x games in less than an hour. I think I felt Eclipse did that better later, but was bigger, longer, and more complicated, so the juice/squeeze ratio might still come out in Nexus Ops’ favor.

The Gang. Still in rotation, still often requested. We could use some more disadvantages, to be honest, as we’re a tight poker group and it’s easy to get into a solid groove.

The game is all about reading the other players and has this odd balance where it can be difficult to play with people you don’t know well but too easy with people you know very well. It’s perfect with people you know medium well, I guess….

Finally got my newest tracks played, and am thinking about getting the second expansion.

We managed a fairly incredible session of The Gang, including successfully resolving a four-way full house.

Sobering news out that Greater than Games are effectively shutting up shop as a result of the current tariff crises. Appears as if for the near future their focus will be solely on moving current in stock warehoused product with all development and production frozen.

Available stock locally here of Spirit Island and expansions seems to have taken a hit overnight. I’ve been mulling over picking up Jagged Earth for a couple of days but there’s fewer purchase options as of this morning.

Thanks for sharing! I thought about it, but will stick with what I have.

There will be a lot of this soon. No way the tariffs allow others to continue business.

The whole kickstarter / gamefound models are ruined

I’m really late to the party as I just discovered this thread which I understand is to celebrate/post pics about real tabletop games (if I’m wrong please forgive me).

Some pictures of my last months solo campaign in Warhammer Quest Silver Tower (my favorite dungeon crawler ever). They’re from different quests in the same campaign, using the Knight Questor, the Fyreslayer Doomseeker and the Darkoath Chieftain.
In the end they managed to break the curse and escape the tower (they also died many many times in pure WarhammerQuest style).

GMT provided a long explanation from Gene about how they are approaching the tariff situation:

The GMT updates on this have been very welcome. Certain comments on the GMT Facebook group, much less so.

https://www.wargamer.com/board-games/stonemaier-sues-president - this made me raise an eyebrow.

Yep - read that a couple of days ago. It was interesting and struck me as being an informed, transparent and proactive response. Uncertainty is certainly the norm at the moment - I skimmed a news article today suggesting that Trump may back down to some degree from the current tariff levels imposed against China. Whether it’s too little too late though….

The Expanse. Haven’t broken this out in a while, but had a fun 3P game which I won largely without much issue. I had a lot of fun dropping my Diplomats into places and doing my best to avoid Martian fleets. The scoring cards came thick and fast which meant after an early lead I was uncatchable.

Fighters of the Pacific, intro battle. Actually won this too, which was nice. The Zeroes ability is such a nice advantage. But the F4F has a head-on advantage that means you have to squeeze every last manoeuvre out of each plane, and I couldn’t maintain the initiative as a result.

Rumble Nation. Another great pub game for the roster.

Lacuna. A nice light 2P game that’s pretty and inoffensive. Not bad at all. The supplied ruler is fine for casual play, but if it gets vicious you may need a tape measure.
