WordStorm. My wife and I play it every Friday, and have been for years. We usually do as many words as we can separately for 8-10 minutes, determine who won by having the higher score at the cutoff, come together and fill in what the other didn’t, and then if the total is 95% or higher, the loser has to quit and give the winner the missing words to get to 100%.
I’m looking for games I could suggest to a IRL friend I only get to see face-to-face a couple times a year. He pulled me into a F2P MMO a couple years ago, but that was predictably pay-to-win.
This needs to have async multiplayer that works cross-platform since we are on different schedules. Ideally something that’s easy to read on the phone since his vision is going. Bonus points for something hard for one person to dominate. Years ago, I had matches of Ravenmark: Mercenaries going with my ex-brother-in-law, but I could consistently crush him. It wasn’t fun for either of us. That game could have been great, but they messed it up with RPG progression and a F2P monetization model that couldn’t keep the lights on.
Co-op would be great, but async co-op for mobile is so niche, I’m not sure I’ve seen it.
Appreciate any suggestions you might have.
Starbase Orion is an asynchronous 4x game. It also has co-op. I can’t speak to its readability as I can’t remember off the top of my head of the text is tiny or not. I can’t think of many asynchronous co-op games, but this is one. Games can last a while, too.
