I still don’t quite have a clue what I am doing but I think this is the type of game I’ll really enjoy when I have a game plan.
As for the app, tutorial aside everything seems pretty good. Async works, UI is functional. The game doesn’t look especially beautiful but there are also some fun touches, like the dwarves wandering around the map.
Thus far, my only problem is being overwhelmed with decisions, and knowing the prerequisites to get them. The field half is a little easier to understand coming from Agricola. The cave half feels more designed around building furnishings for bonuses, yes? I’m sure I’ll ignore questing, or whatever it is, until future games.
My biggest issue is so far I’ve only played against 2 AI so am finding with all of us in the game as @Baelnor said - pretty crowded. So in comparison to a 3 player game it feels more like knife fight in a phone booth and putting in place and maintaining a game plan more challenging.
However, in my very limited experience with the game - I’ve always quested. Your “questing” dwarf will automatically level up each time they go on a quest which in turn opens up some pretty meaty rewards at the higher levels (eg cows which I think may be one of the few ways to gain them). If you can grab the expedition space when it comes up later in the game you get 4 lots of resources / actions for the cost of 1 dwarf.
My 2c worth. Also enjoying the game as well. Only play in 2D view though - struggle too much with the 3D view.
Is there any downside to clearing forest and mining the caves? I get that you want the foresight to arrange your fields the right way for the pastures you need, but other than that, clear away?
Nothing against my Stately friends, but this might have been the single most terrible learning experience ever - if it can be said that I learned anything at all.
I still can’t figure out how (or why) to get axes, and building seems so very narrow. I want to build things like new room, but is there only one space that lets you?
